The New Site

The new site for the Old fort is in a clearing across the lake from the Nature Center. It is be situated in the back corner of this clearing, near the edge of the forest.

A photograph of the site is below. The fort is now located in the back right corner of the field. An arm of the lake is to the left of the field. An existing small dock will allow us to launch period watercraft, the field is large enough for many activities including trade fairs, musters, and many other types of events. The forest around the field is a mixed pine-hardwood, with a relatively open understory, so it is excellent for afternoon forays to scout. There's a great rock outcropping by the lake back farther into the woods.

Facilities for visitors will be improved, with an accessible path to the fort area and parking. Much more can be done when we have the funds to complete it. Would you like to help? Click here to email us for more info
